For the love of God, please stop fitting in
Every day, you have a choice to make.
Ok, you’re right, you have lots of choices to make every day. But one is of paramount importance, and most of us don’t even think about it.
Each day when we wake up, we get to choose whether we’ll spend the next 16 or so hours of consciousness being the uniquely designed person we were created to be, or if we’ll spend the day trying to fit in. To be normal.
In case you are wondering, the entire concept of normal is complete BS. None of us are normal. We each have a unique DNA combination and a fully unique ecosystem (our gut microbiome) amongst other fully unique qualities.
In addition to your unique biology, you have your own unique life experiences. Passions. Interests. Skills.
Why on earth would you take all of the funky, quirky mojo that makes you different and water it down to fit in a box some jackass defined as normal?
Please don’t.
The world is not reshaped by normal people, but by the misfits.
Every. Single. Time.
Elvis Presley was told to go back to driving a truck because he didn’t have any talent.
Steve Jobs was fired from Apple (a company he co-founded) before returning as the interim CEO to restructure it into the behemoth it is today.
So, how do you turn your “non-normalness” (let’s call it abnormality from now on, because non-normalness sounds messy…) into a strength?
Embrace Your Weirdness
Whatever makes you quirky, whatever makes you unique or abnormal, embrace it. You don’t have to hide it. Whether it’s a love for French poetry, cat memes, or Renaissance festivals, you don’t have to hide it.
Think about a famous artist or a celebrated musician.
Did they fit in?
Were they normal?
No.
They had influences, of course, but the best artists take their work past their influences and create something new and unique.
Something abnormal.
These are the mold breakers.
The risk takers.
They changed the landscape for those who came after them because they refused to fit in, to be pigeonholed into “normal.”
Stay you. Fiercely, weirdly, uniquely you.
The world needs you. Not the you that is trying to be like others. The real you. The one created for this very moment. You were built for this moment, to achieve something no one else can.
Stop aiming for normal and go be the one thing only you can be.
You.
